Any cinephile who watched Bill Hader’s incredible directing work on “Barry” began eagerly awaiting the day he made his first feature film. The wait is almost over, as the actor and filmmaker is set to release the horror feature “They Know” in 2027. And attendees at IndieWire’s upcoming Future of Filmmaking Summit in Los Angeles will get to hear details about Hader’s transition into feature directing even sooner.
Hader will join IndieWire for What No One Tells You About Directing Your First Feature, a one-on-one conversation where he’ll share insights about his filmmaking career and lessons that he learned from the upcoming film.
“They Know” stars Hader as a divorced father who becomes suspicious of his ex-wife’s new boyfriend and the influence he has on their children. The film, which Hader co-wrote with “Barry” writer Duffy Boudreau, also stars Linda Cardellini, Lilou Lang, and Lorelei Olivia Mote.
Hader joins a lineup that includes a keynote presentation from Phil Lord and Chris Miller about the making of “Project Hail Mary” and an appearance from “Obsession” writer/director/editor Curry Barker, who will accept the inaugural Future of Filmmaking Award.
IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking Summit will take place at Penske Media’s headquarters at Lumen West LA on Saturday, October 17. The all-day event will feature a wide-range of panels and networking opportunities centered around the ideas, people, technology, and skills that shape storytelling today. Additional programming will be announced over the coming weeks.
