Benny Blanco jokes Selena Gomez eats like a child

During a private taping of Gwyneth Paltrow’s “The Goop Podcast,” Benny Blanco described Selena Gomez’s eating habits as “the diet of a 5-year-old,” sparking surprise from Paltrow—before Blanco defended Gomez’s takeout choices and pointed to her “healthy” order

Selena Gomez’s kitchen habits have a new, very blunt fan account—this one delivered by her husband, Benny Blanco, who summed up her routine as “the diet of a 5-year-old child.”

Blanco shared the comment during a recent. private taping of Gwyneth Paltrow’s “The Goop Podcast. ” held in front of a live audience in West Hollywood.. Parts of the conversation from the May 12 taping surfaced later. with details that portrayed Gomez’s breakfast as decidedly not refined. including fast food.

Blanco walked into the scene while Gomez was. as he put it. a big fan of “burger and fries.” He described seeing her eating “Jack in the Box at 6:45 in the morning” during the Goop recording. and the moment reportedly hit Paltrow hard.. In the conversation, Paltrow reacted by saying, “This is NOT Goop approved!”

The tension didn’t last long—because Blanco pivoted quickly. trying to show that the story wasn’t all takeout that “is bad for your diet.” He told Paltrow that Gomez also eats “the s*** out of” her “healthy” takeout chain Goop Kitchen.. He added that Gomez “doesn’t really like fruits or vegetables. ” then explained that she often orders Goop’s Chinese chicken salad and. in his words. eats “everything on top of the salad” before leaving the greens for him.

A separate chapter of Gomez’s relationship with food sits in the background of the exchange: she was hospitalized and treated for being malnourished and exhausted in 2011. At the time, she admitted, “I do eat. The problem is I don’t eat right. I love everything that’s possibly not good for me.”

Gomez later leaned into cooking on screen.. In 2020, she launched her HBO Max series, Selena + Chef, working with professional chefs at home to hone her skills.. The show ran for four seasons, and it later inspired a Food Network spin-off, Selena + Restaurant, in 2024.. Still. she has acknowledged the process isn’t magically finished; in 2022. she told People. “Not to say I still don’t have my moments. but I’ve come a long way.”

The pieces connect in a straightforward way: Blanco’s “5-year-old” breakfast moment—paired with his admission that Gomez eats “whatever is bad for your diet”—lands beside her own past statement about loving foods that aren’t good for her. and both threads point back to why cooking and improving what she eats became part of her public story.

Even with the comedic edge, Gomez isn’t shy about praising what her husband can do.. During a December 2024 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. she gushed about Blanco’s cooking. saying he cooked every meal served to their 50 Thanksgiving guests that year.. “I tried to be the hostess and then watch him and encourage him,” Gomez joked.. She married Blanco in September 2025.
