Beagles Released From Ridglan Farms as Transfers Begin

Misryoum reports the first beagle transport left Ridglan Farms, with hundreds headed to rescues and shelters over coming days.
A caravan of hope rolled out of Ridglan Farms on Friday, as the first loads of beagles were released to partner rescues and shelters across the country.
In Misryoum’s coverage of the moment. the initial transports marked the start of at least 10 days of movement for hundreds of dogs.. Activists described the releases as emotional. not only because the animals were leaving behind years of confinement. but also because many were exploring the outdoors for the first time.
The process is being handled with veterinary oversight. The dogs were screened by veterinarians, provided with vaccinations, and given Benadryl intended to help prevent reactions.
In the background. the case has been shaped by years of scrutiny around animal welfare concerns at the facility in Blue Mounds. where beagles were bred for scientific research.. In 2024, former employees testified about conditions at the farm and surgeries described as routine without pain relief.. Later. a court found probable cause that animal cruelty crimes may have occurred. but a special prosecutor ultimately did not pursue criminal charges. instead agreeing to a settlement that requires the surrender of the breeding license by July 1. 2026.
Meanwhile, Misryoum reports that large nonprofit groups have confirmed a plan to purchase a major portion of the dogs from the Dane County breeding facility. Advocates say the releases are not the end of their work, pointing to additional animals they believe remain at the site.
This matters because high-profile removals like these can quickly shift public attention from long-term concerns to immediate outcomes: where the dogs go next, how they adjust, and what safeguards are used during the transition.
For now, the focus is on the beagles already slated for rescue. Misryoum notes that the Dane County Humane Society is preparing to take in about 500 of the dogs, with a smaller number expected for the Wisconsin Humane Society in Milwaukee.
If you want to help, Misryoum says information for fostering or adopting a beagle is available through the involved rescue organizations, including application guidance shared online.
At its core, the first transport is a turning point: a visible break from an entrenched system, and a reminder that animal welfare timelines often depend on coordination, oversight, and public pressure working together.
