Back up Samsung Messages before the switch

Samsung Messages – Samsung is ending its Messages app for newer Android users. Here are two simple ways to back up your chats using Misryoum.
Your Samsung Messages history could disappear sooner than you think, and the fix is simpler than most people expect.
Samsung has confirmed it will retire its Messages app in favor of Google Messages. with the change required for users on Samsung phones running Android 12 or newer in July.. For anyone who has built years of threads. that raises an urgent question: how do you keep a local record or a cloud copy before the transition fully lands?
Misryoum recommends treating this like a small “data hygiene” task. If you have messages tied to accounts, travel, or important confirmations, backing them up now prevents the headache of trying to recover later.
There are two straightforward backup paths that avoid relying on sketchy third-party tools.. First, you can move your messages to external storage.. Using Samsung’s Smart Switch. you can connect an SSD or external drive. open Smart Switch from your phone’s Settings. select the storage option. and choose to back up Messages.. It’s the most direct approach if you want control over where your data lives.
Second, you can back up to the cloud using Samsung Cloud or Google Drive.. This route is often easier for later restoration. especially if you plan to switch devices or keep your backups ready across platforms.. Misryoum notes that Google Drive may be the more flexible option for cross-brand use. while Samsung Cloud stays tightly aligned with Samsung’s ecosystem.
Insight: Cloud backups help you plan for device changes, while local backups are ideal for keeping a portable snapshot you can store yourself. Doing both can reduce the risk of “one backup not being enough.”
To set up cloud backup. you’ll typically start from your device’s Settings area for Accounts and backup. then choose the option to back up data under Samsung Cloud and/or Google Drive.. After you sign in to the relevant account. the settings pages should reflect the most recent backup time once the process completes.
Meanwhile, even after your messages are saved, it’s worth testing the replacement app before the cutoff arrives. If you try Google Messages (or any alternative) early, you can check how your chats look, how your conversations carry over, and whether your day-to-day messaging experience feels right.
Insight: Preparing early reduces friction. When a messaging platform changes, it is not just about backups, it is about making sure the next app works the way you need before the old one goes away.
