Amazon rolls out Claude Code and Codex to staff

Amazon Claude – Amazon is standardizing access to Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex across its corporate workforce via Bedrock.

Amazon is pushing more advanced AI coding tools to its entire corporate workforce, and the change starts with Amazon Claude Code.

According to an internal note shared with Misryoum. Amazon plans to make Anthropic’s Claude Code available company-wide immediately. with OpenAI’s Codex scheduled to follow on May 12.. Misryoum also reports that both tools will run through Amazon Bedrock and be managed via AWS. with the stated goal of reducing the need for employees to set up their own infrastructure or manage capacity.

The message frames the move as an effort to broaden what developers can use while building for customers, positioning these assistants as part of the company’s day-to-day development toolkit rather than a special-case add-on.

In this context, the shift is also about simplification: standard access tends to lower internal friction and speeds up experimentation, especially in teams where developers care about getting productive quickly.

Until now, Claude Code access had been more constrained inside Amazon, with production use requiring special clearance.. Misryoum reports that this created internal frustration among engineers who preferred Claude Code over Amazon’s own in-house Kiro tool. even as Kiro had been widely adopted across the organization.

Meanwhile, Amazon says it is “standardizing” access so separate approvals are no longer required.. Misryoum adds that the company’s spokesperson emphasized that Kiro remains a primary option for many teams. while Bedrock-hosted Claude Code and Codex expand the menu of agentic coding tools available to builders.

This matters because when large employers treat AI coding tools like shared infrastructure, adoption becomes less about permissions and more about workflow fit, which can influence productivity across hundreds or thousands of projects.

The rollout also underscores how central outside AI labs have become to Amazon’s enterprise development strategy.. Misryoum notes that Amazon’s partnerships with Anthropic and OpenAI have been deepening through investments and cloud-related commitments. including plans tied to custom model work and demand for specialized chips.

Misryoum’s takeaway is clear: Amazon’s move to scale Amazon Claude Code and Codex through Bedrock signals a broader industry trend toward “model availability at scale. ” where the competitive edge increasingly depends on how quickly organizations can integrate strong AI capabilities into everyday engineering.
