Aaron Rodgers agrees Steelers one-year deal ahead of OTAs

Aaron Rodgers has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Steelers, ending months of uncertainty about his 2026 plans and clearing the way for the quarterback to return before voluntary OTA work begins.

Aaron Rodgers is coming back to the field with the Steelers.

Terms have been agreed on a one-year deal, two days before the first of the Steelers’ 2026 OTA sessions. Those OTAs are voluntary, meaning Rodgers is not required to attend, while the annual mandatory minicamp is set for next month.

The agreement puts an end to months of speculation about whether Rodgers would play again in 2026. and—if he did—where that would happen.. Nearly three weeks ago, the Steelers raised the stakes by using the unrestricted free agent tender.. The tender was designed to keep compensatory draft-pick consideration in place if Rodgers signed elsewhere. while also granting the Steelers exclusive negotiating rights if he didn’t sign with anyone by July 22.

With Rodgers now signed, that complicated clock has effectively run out.

The remaining question is the value of the contract itself.. Last year. Rodgers gave the Steelers a bargain. with a base package of only $13.65 million. and he added $500. 000 if the Steelers made the playoffs.. Either way. a deal is in place. and the immediate impact is clear: Rodgers is back. and the Steelers are no longer stuck in uncertainty about what their quarterback situation looks like for 2026.

Nearly three weeks ago. the Steelers used the unrestricted free agent tender to secure both compensatory draft-pick consideration if Rodgers left and exclusive negotiating rights if he stayed unsigned past July 22. and now that those conditions have been overtaken by a one-year agreement. the outcome of that strategy has gone from hypothetical to settled.

It’s still unclear what the Steelers will look like with him under the new deal. What is clear is how they would have faced risk without him, with the team likely “screwed” had the situation failed to come together.
