Steelers sign three draft picks as offseason moves on
Steelers draft – Pittsburgh has agreed with three of its newest rookies, including Kaden Wetjen, Gabriel Rubio and Robert Spears-Jennings.
A new wave of rookies is headed to Pittsburgh as the Steelers complete signings with three of their selected draft picks.
The team announced it has signed fourth-round wide receiver Kaden Wetjen. sixth-round offensive tackle Gabriel Rubio. and seventh-round safety Robert Spears-Jennings.. With these agreements in place. they become the first three of Pittsburgh’s 10 draft selections to reach contract terms. leaving several other rookies still without deals.
For Wetjen, the Steelers are getting a player whose college value went beyond receiving.. At Iowa, he contributed across the field, including a substantial special-teams workload that translated into punt return production and scoring.. That dual impact is a key reason teams often target players at the receiver position who can also shift momentum in the kicking game.
Meanwhile, Rubio arrives after an up-and-down stretch at Notre Dame that included time missed late in the 2025 season due to injury. Still, he was trusted with starting responsibilities while he was available, giving Pittsburgh options up front as it builds depth along the offensive line.
A slightly more defensive-minded addition follows with Spears-Jennings.. The Oklahoma product played throughout his final season. starting the majority of games and finishing his college career with a high volume of tackles. as well as defensive playmaking that included tackles for loss and interceptions.
This matters because early rookie signings help teams organize training camp workloads and clarify roles sooner, especially for players expected to contribute on special teams and depth charts.
With only a portion of the class signed so far, the Steelers’ remaining negotiations will shape how quickly the rest of their offseason plans come together. Still, these three contracts provide a clear signal of intent as Pittsburgh prepares for the next steps of the rebuild process.
In the end, these agreements may not grab headlines on draft night, but for an NFL roster, they often set the tone for depth, competition, and readiness when camp begins.
