Apple Wallet is about to get a more hands-on feature, and iOS 27 could finally let people create custom digital passes instead of waiting for businesses to set them up.
Misryoum reports that Apple is working on a “Create a Pass” option inside the Wallet app as part of iOS 27. The goal is simple: let users digitize everyday items like tickets and loyalty cards directly on their iPhone, even when a service has not officially enabled Apple Wallet support.
This matters because it shifts Wallet from something you only receive into something you can actively build, reducing friction for anyone who relies on QR codes, memberships, or prepaid gift experiences.
The feature is expected to cover the passes people use most often in daily life. including digital tickets. reward cards. gift cards. and other membership passes.. Access would likely show up through two paths: the “+” button inside Wallet and the same area where users typically add credit cards.. Once inside, the experience would guide users toward creating passes for items like tickets, memberships, and gift cards.
Misryoum says the process could work either from scratch or by scanning a QR code with your iPhone camera. That QR-based approach is particularly relevant in real-world scenarios where a venue or service provides an entry code but has not yet built native Apple Wallet compatibility.
In practice, this kind of “scan and convert” capability can make Wallet feel more universal, especially for people who frequently run into businesses that still depend on physical cards or standalone QR entry.
Apple’s customization options are also part of the plan.. Misryoum notes that the interface would allow users to adjust the look of each pass. including styling. images. colors. and the text shown on the card.. For testing. Apple is reportedly experimenting with three template styles: a Standard option as a default. a Membership theme tailored for access-based venues. and an Event option aimed at ticketed occasions.
Meanwhile, Misryoum points out that Apple isn’t alone in this space.. Google Wallet has supported user-generated passes for some time. and multiple third-party tools can already help people convert physical passes into digital ones stored on iPhones.. With iOS 27, Apple appears to be closing that gap by bringing similar functionality directly into Wallet.
