When Ryder Robinson walked out to his New York University graduation ceremony on May 14. it wasn’t just a college milestone for Kate Hudson’s family.. It became a full-on family appearance across the blended lines—purple NYU merch. full suite photos. and posts that made it clear everyone came to celebrate.

After the commencement ceremony at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Ryder shared an Instagram photo of himself and his extended. blended family posing inside a stadium suite.. All of them were dressed in purple NYU gear.. In the picture were his younger brother. nicknamed Bing. and sister Rani. alongside his mom. Kate; Danny Fujikawa; his grandmother Goldie Hawn and grandfather Kurt Russell; and Bing’s dad. Matt.

Ryder’s dad did not appear in the photo. but his presence was still felt through another corner of the family’s social media.. Matt’s wife. Camille Johnson. appeared to be in the images. and Camille posted a video of the commencement ceremony on her Instagram Stories.. Chris Robinson reposted that video to his own Stories.

The support didn’t stop with family. Ryder’s girlfriend, Piper Lacy, who has been dating him for three years, shared a separate photo of him and his friend in the middle of the crowd, both wearing purple togas.

Kate Hudson, who shares her firstborn Ryder with singer Chris Robinson—her husband from 2000 to 2007—also co-parents across relationships. She shares son Bingham, 14, with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy, and daughter Rani Rose, seven, with Danny Fujikawa.

Ryder’s graduation came after a college path that reportedly spans more than one creative lane. While he studied at NYU, he reportedly studied both acting and music, following in the footsteps of his parents. More recently, Kate said he’d developed an interest in furniture design.

Hudson has been open about what co-parenting looks like in real life.. In 2022, she told the Sunday Times, “For me it’s like, you loved this person.. That doesn’t just go away. but you can re-establish a different kind of love. ” adding. “You can have an amazing time with an ex-partner because you’re really only focused on the love of your child.”

In 2024, she also described the emotional side of living across the country. Speaking to TODAY’s Willie Geist, she said, “All you want is your kid to thrive and be happy. But, man, when I’m in L.A., and I go to the coffee machine in the morning, and I don’t hear his voice, it’s a big one.”

She even revisited the question of whether she was done having kids.. “I’ve got my four-year-old and I’ve got a kid in college.. And I don’t even know if I’m done yet.. You know, I don’t have that answer yet,” she admitted.. Though she said “at one point” she felt she was “done. ” she added that meeting Danny shifted the timeline again: “Then I met Danny and was like. ‘Alright. I got to pump them out for him. ‘” before joking. “He needs a boy.. He needs his own boy.”

Now Ryder’s NYU graduation has landed as one of those rare, high-visibility moments where the blended family story isn’t just talked about—it’s visibly celebrated, right down to the shared purple and the wide circle of loved ones gathered at Yankee Stadium.
