3 killed as roof collapses in east Afghanistan
KABUL — A mother and her two children were killed after the roof of their house collapsed in Wardak province in east Afghanistan, Misryoum newsroom reported.
The provincial police spokesman, Mohammad Yusuf Israr, said the incident happened in Jaghato district on Sunday night during heavy rain. Two other people were also injured. The injured family members were shifted to a nearby health center, he added.
The tragedy came after another similar incident earlier in the week. Misryoum newsroom reported that in Nangarhar province on Friday, two children died and five others were injured after rain-related damage.
Over the past 10 days, rainstorms and flash floods have killed nearly 100 people and injured more than 150 others across Afghanistan. Misryoum editorial desk noted that the country’s meteorological department has forecast more rain over the next 24 hours in parts of the country. It’s the kind of forecast that makes people watch the sky longer than usual—actually, you can feel that shift in a room when the rain starts again, even before you hear it hit the roof.
For families in affected areas, the danger isn’t just the water. Collapses like this are often tied to already fragile housing and saturated ground, and when it rains hard, there’s little time to react. Misryoum analysis indicates officials are likely to focus on immediate rescue and medical transfers, but the broader question—how to prevent the next collapse—sits there too, quietly, after the headlines move on.
Misryoum editorial team stated that heavy weather continues to strain local response capacity, especially when multiple incidents occur within days. And while this case is specific to Wardak and Jaghato, the pattern of roof damage and flood impacts has been repeated across different provinces. For now, with more rain expected in the next day, residents are left waiting again—listening, counting minutes, and hoping the next downpour doesn’t find another weak point.
