Marana Police Investigate Package Theft Involving Political Canvasser Caught on Doorbell Camera

Marana police are actively investigating a reported package theft captured on a residential doorbell camera in the Gladden Farms neighborhood, located about 20 minutes outside of Tucson. The incident, which occurred on October 14, quickly gained traction across social media platforms after a woman appearing to be the homeowner shared the footage on Facebook alongside news that she had filed a formal police report.

The circulating surveillance video shows a woman walking up to a front door to drop off political literature supporting Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs. After leaving the flier, the footage appears to show the individual noticing a package resting on the porch, picking it up, and walking away with it.

As the video spread online, online commentators and political figures quickly weighed in. Social media posts directed blame toward Governor Katie Hobbs’ reelection campaign, and U.S. Representative Andy Biggs reposted the footage. Political organizers also began texting the video out to voters, attributing the actions directly to the Hobbs campaign.

However, representatives for Governor Hobbs pushed back against those assertions, clarifying that the individual captured in the video had no association with the campaign committee. The campaign noted that while the distributed literature was pro-Hobbs in nature, the flyer was actually handled and distributed by the advocacy group LUCHA.

Officials with LUCHA subsequently confirmed that the woman recorded in the video was indeed one of their seasonal canvassers. In an official statement, the advocacy group expressed strong condemnation of the incident.

“We were shocked and outraged by the actions of an individual canvasser,” LUCHA said in the statement. “We unequivocally condemn this behavior. It is completely unacceptable and does not reflect our values or the integrity of the organizers and canvassers who serve our communities every day.”

The organization added that the seasonal canvasser involved is no longer employed by the group. Representatives from LUCHA have also reached out to communicate directly with the homeowner, offering a sincere apology to the affected community member.

Marana police have confirmed that the investigation into the October 14 theft remains ongoing as local authorities continue to review the case.
