18 major US companies with top maternity leave
A new ranking highlights how major US employers compare on paid maternity leave, expanding benefits over time despite no federal guarantee.
A big part of family planning in the US can come down to something far less discussed than healthcare or childcare: where you work.
In a country that does not provide a national guarantee for paid parental leave. employer policies often determine what postpartum life can look like for new parents.. As reported, the US is the only developed, high-income nation without a federal paid parental leave mandate.. Still, 14 states and Washington, DC have introduced their own mandatory paid leave programs.
For eligible workers, the Family and Medical Leave Act offers unpaid, job-protected leave.. But it does not dictate whether that time is paid, which is why company benefits matter so much in practice.. Amid economic uncertainty. some employers—including Deloitte and Zoom—have been scaling back leave benefits for certain employees. even as broader parental leave trends appear to be moving in the opposite direction for many firms.
A researcher at UCLA Anderson who tracks parental leave practices across the largest publicly traded companies said the overall pattern is one of expansion: more firms are offering paid parental leave and. in many cases. longer leave.. Her most recent data. dated October 2025. assesses companies based on how transparent their policies are and how long the primary parent’s paid leave lasts.. From that dataset. a list was compiled of companies that publicly disclose their paid parental leave policy and provide paid leave for both birthing and non-birthing parents.

Even with the absence of a federal paid-leave guarantee. this ranking underlines a practical reality for many US families: leave length. salary coverage. and flexibility can differ sharply from one employer to another.. Some policies build totals by stacking categories such as bonding and childbirth-specific leave. while others set a single paid-leave duration and then layer in supplemental reimbursements or childcare support.
The broader trend toward longer and more transparent paid leave—identified through tracking of some of the 500 largest public companies by revenue—also helps explain why some employers have become more explicit about eligibility and timing windows. such as when mothers may begin leave before the birth.. But the same coverage also reflects why uncertainty remains for workers: while many firms are expanding paid parental benefits over time. reports indicate that at least some companies have adjusted these benefits during periods of economic stress.
