Zamfara Okays ₦3.76bn for Gusau Water Scheme Rehabilitation

Zamfara’s government has approved ₦3.76 billion to rehabilitate the Gusau water supply scheme, aiming to restore production and improve access to clean water.

Gusau’s water supply is set for a major overhaul after Zamfara approved ₦3.76 billion for the rehabilitation of the scheme.

The approval was made by Governor Dauda Lawal following a State Executive Council meeting, after a memorandum from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure flagged the water system’s worsening condition and called for urgent intervention.

In this context, the plan is intended to bring back water production and distribution in Gusau, while also strengthening residents’ access to cleaner water.

This matters because when water infrastructure deteriorates, the impact is often felt immediately in daily life, from household supply to public health.

According to the government, funding for the rehabilitation is captured in the 2026 Appropriation Law, which signals that the project is being treated as part of the state’s core infrastructure priorities.

Once completed, the Zamfara State Water Corporation will take charge of the facilities to help ensure the scheme remains functional over time.

Officials also urged residents to support the initiative, framing community cooperation as important to successful execution and sustainability.

For many communities, the difference between a completed project and a lasting one often depends on how well operations are maintained after commissioning, making follow-through essential.

If all goes as planned, Misryoum reports that the rehabilitation could help stabilize water services in Gusau and reduce the strain residents face from a failing system.
