YouTube Music foldable UI: tweak this hidden Samsung setting

YouTube Music’s revamped foldable interface depends on a Samsung display setting. Here’s the tweak to unlock the multi-column layout.

YouTube Music’s new foldable-friendly interface is finally showing up the way you’d expect, but only if your Samsung display is configured just right.

With a recent UI refresh, YouTube Music appears to use foldable screen space more intelligently on book-style devices.. The most noticeable improvement is the multi-column “now playing” layout. which brings quicker access to elements like your queue and reduces the wasted space that earlier versions could show on foldables.

Still, the change may not appear for everyone at first. If you’re on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, you may need to adjust a setting tied to how the phone scales content.

That matters because foldable apps often rely on Android and manufacturer display scaling rules to decide when to switch layouts. A setting like this can be the difference between a cramped single-column UI and a layout that actually fits the bigger screen.

Misryoum recommends checking your phone’s screen zoom configuration: go to Settings. then Display. and look for Screen layout and zoom.. On many Samsung devices. the default screen zoom is set to maximum. and that can prevent certain Google apps from using their foldable-optimized interface in portrait.

Misryoum also notes that the behavior may vary across different foldable models. Even if the app is updated, some users may not see the redesigned multi-column view in portrait on narrower devices, which suggests the app’s layout triggers are sensitive to screen dimensions.

Meanwhile, flip phones are a separate story.. YouTube Music’s experience on cover screens appears limited. with controls and key sections not being available in the way you might expect on compact displays.. For people using a cover screen as a quick music hub. this can make the app feel less practical than alternatives.

In the end, these tweaks and quirks highlight how fast-folding hardware can expose software edge cases. If you own a foldable, adjusting display scaling and testing the app in both portrait and landscape may be the quickest route to the interface Google designed for larger screens.
