U.S. Senator Chris Murphy Hospitalized Following Weekend Stroke

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut has been hospitalized following a stroke he experienced over the weekend, according to a statement released Sunday by his office.

Murphy’s chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, said the four-term Democratic senator is currently responding well to treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. The 53-year-old lawmaker first experienced numbness in his arm on Saturday while attending his son’s hockey game. He was initially taken to a local hospital, where medical staff determined he had suffered a stroke.

Following the initial diagnosis, Murphy was transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital for further medical monitoring. Herwitt noted that physicians are encouraged by his progress, adding that the senator is fully awake, alert, and optimistic about his recovery.

The unexpected health event disrupted a busy political schedule for Murphy, who is frequently mentioned as a potential presidential candidate for 2028 and has actively campaigned for candidates across the United States. He had been scheduled to travel to New Hampshire on Sunday to attend campaign events.

Murphy has represented Connecticut in the upper chamber since his election to the Senate in 2012. Prior to his tenure in the Senate, he spent six years serving in the House of Representatives.
