Ugandan golfers seek revenge against Kenya in Migingo Skirmishes

Ugandan golfers prepare to host Kenya at Entebbe Club for the second leg of the cross-border I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series, aiming to overturn a previous defeat.

Ugandan golfers are sharpening their irons and preparing for a fierce showdown as they host the second leg of the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series at the Entebbe Club this Saturday.. The tournament, famously dubbed the ‘Migingo Skirmishes,’ serves as a high-stakes rematch following the inaugural event held in Limuru, Kenya, back in November 2024.

Nearly 200 players are expected to grace the course, all eyeing victory in an event that has quickly become a highlight of the regional sporting calendar. With a significant turnout expected, the atmosphere at Entebbe is set to be electric.

In the previous encounter, the Kenyan side dominated the leaderboard with 399 points against Uganda’s 343. This deficit provides the home team with extra motivation to reclaim their pride on familiar fairways, where the top ten scores from each nation will determine the ultimate winner of the day.

This rivalry highlights how regional sports events are successfully evolving from simple competitions into essential platforms for fostering cross-border cooperation and deeper networking among professional and amateur enthusiasts.

This cross-border initiative was born from a vision by Kihara Mania, the Regional I&M Bank CEO.. After enjoying the unique atmosphere of the Katogo Series in mid-2024, he bridged the gap between the two countries, inviting organizers to expand the competition to Kenya.. That initial spark has now turned into a consistent exchange of talent and camaraderie.

As the host contingent prepares, Katogo Captain Elly Mukasa has extended a warm welcome to the Kenyan visitors. He emphasized that while the competition on the course will be intense, the underlying goal remains the strengthening of ties between the two golfing communities.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the tournament organizers have ensured the day is packed with excitement. The competition will run in a match play format for the primary team event, while a broader Stableford category will accommodate the rest of the field, ensuring every player remains engaged.

Annette Nakiyaga of I&M Bank noted that the series has grown significantly since its inception, acting as a catalyst for regional integration. She believes these events go far beyond the scorecard, as they create lasting professional and personal connections across borders.

Adding to the stakes, a brand-new Mitsubishi Outlander Sport remains the prestigious prize for any golfer who manages a hole-in-one.. The festivities will conclude with a themed 19th hole experience featuring live music, signaling the series’ commitment to blending high-level sport with social engagement.

Ultimately, the Migingo Skirmishes prove that sporting rivalries can serve as a powerful tool for diplomacy, turning friendly competition into a foundation for long-term regional partnership and mutual growth.
