Thermos Recall: 8.2 Million Bottles and Jars Pulled After Eye Injuries
Thermos recall – Thermos is recalling 8.2 million food jars and bottles after reports of stoppers ejecting, including permanent vision loss.
A Thermos recall is underway after reports that jar and bottle stoppers can eject forcefully and strike users in the face, including cases of permanent vision loss.
Misryoum reports that the recall covers about 8.2 million units of two product lines: Thermos Stainless King Food Jars and Thermos Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles. The affected items are being pulled following injury reports submitted by consumers, with some incidents requiring medical attention.
For many households, these products are a staple for packing meals and drinks, so the potential for a seemingly simple opening motion to cause harm makes the recall especially urgent.
The recall notice identifies specific models and notes that the risk is tied to how the stopper functions under pressure.. If food or beverages are stored for a longer period. pressure can build inside the container. and the stopper can be expelled when the product is opened.. In the recalled designs, the stopper does not include a pressure-relief feature.
Misryoum says Thermos has received reports of consumers being struck by an ejected stopper. Among the documented injuries, some involve the eye, including reports of permanent vision loss.
This matters because similar containers are widely used every day, and a design issue that behaves unpredictably under pressure can turn routine use into a safety problem.
Consumers are being told to stop using the affected products immediately. Misryoum reports that the identified models include Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles (model SK3010) and certain Food Jars (models SK3000, SK3020), as well as Stainless King Food Jars manufactured before July 2023.
The company says owners can take different steps depending on the item.. Misryoum reports that for some jars. customers should dispose of the stopper and send a photo of the disposal to Thermos. while owners of SK3010 bottles are directed to return the product using a prepaid shipping label provided by the company.
Misryoum also notes that the recalled products were sold through major retailers including Walmart, Target, and Amazon, as well as on Thermos.com, with availability spanning years and multiple colors.
If you own one of the affected models, checking the model number and following the recall instructions is the most practical way to reduce risk while the replacement process is handled.
