Suspect Arrested in Chicago Following Multistate Killing Spree Across Kenosha and Seattle

A 33-year-old man suspected of committing a string of homicides spanning across Washington state and Wisconsin was captured in Chicago following a multi-jurisdictional manhunt. Authorities identified the suspect as Michael Oneal Fleming, who now faces extradition to address capital charges in multiple states.

The sequence of events unfolded over several days and crossed multiple state lines, beginning in Seattle, where investigators say Fleming targeted a local gas station clerk. According to security footage and King County criminal complaints, Fleming entered a Seattle gas station shortly before 6 a.m. on October 13 and shot the clerk at least four times, killing him. Prosecutors noted that the suspect departed the scene without any apparent haste following the shooting.

Investigators reviewing the victim’s phone found no immediate motive for the attack. Records showed that Fleming had previously been employed for four years at a different gas station owned by the same proprietor, though he had recently left that job.

Following the Seattle homicide, the violence shifted to Kenosha, Wisconsin, where police discovered the bodies of Fleming’s mother, Rena Oneal, and his stepfather, Rodney Brushwood, inside their residence near 55th Street and Washington Road. Kenosha police officers responded to the home Monday afternoon to conduct a welfare check after noticing the door was ajar, subsequently discovering the couple’s remains.

Preliminary indications at the scene suggested the victims had been dead for several days. Neighbors in the Kenosha community expressed shock and grief over the loss. Ophelia Ellis, a nearby resident, described the couple as a hardworking and loving pair who likely tried to assist the suspect. Ellis recounted having previous interactions with Fleming, describing him as quiet and impolite, and noted that the tragedy had deeply shaken local residents who struggled to sleep in the aftermath.

Authorities stated that Fleming’s twin brother alerted investigators after receiving concerning text messages from the suspect prior to the discoveries. According to police reports, the twin stated that Fleming had been acting erratic, delusional, and appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis.

Law enforcement agencies utilized community tips and witness reports to track the suspect, leading to his apprehension on the streets of Chicago on Tuesday. Kenosha police publicly thanked community members for their assistance in advancing the investigation. Investigators have not yet established a definitive motive for either the Seattle or Kenosha killings.

Fleming is currently held in custody in Chicago. Extradition proceedings will first transport him to Seattle to face a charge of first-degree homicide, a process officials estimate could take anywhere from one week to a month. Following the conclusion of proceedings in Washington, Fleming will be transferred to Kenosha County to face local charges.
