Sulom has refused Mighty Wanderers’ bid to switch tomorrow’s kick-off from 4:30pm to 2:30pm for the FDH Premiership derby against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has rejected Mighty Wanderers’ demand to revert the kick off time for tomorrow’s FDH Premiership match against their arch-rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to the standard 2.30pm from 4.30pm.. The latest episode of the Blantyre derby, which will also be used as the league’s launch game, will be played at the giant Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.. runners on May 6 expressing their “deep concern and dissatisfaction” on the timing.. But in an interview yesterday, Sulom president Gilbert Mittawa said they will stick with the 4.30pm kick off time.. “The game is at 4.30pm and there won’t be any change,” he said.. In their letter, the Lali Lubani Road outfit claimed that the change was effected without prior consultation with them despite their status as the hosts.. “For the avoidance of doubt,
we wish to state clearly that as the home team, we cannot be forced to play games outside normal and agreed times without our prior consent.. This action sets a dangerous precedent that we are not willing to accept,” reads part of the letter signed by their board secretary Chancy Gondwe.. Wanderers claim that no valid reason has been provided for the shift, adding that among others, “the change has created confusion among their supporters
on the exact kick-off time,” thereby affecting planning, attendance, and overall matchday experience”.. The Nomads also fear that the change will lead to poor attendance.. “For the entire week, Sulom has endeavoured to persuade us to play our matches at night, presumably to serve other private interests.. Shifting our kick-off to 4:30 PM is a clear step towards that night-game agenda,” the letter further reads.. But in response Sulom says the timing was agreed by
its executive committee after considering several factors, incliding availability of the venue.
