Stars Look to Carry Momentum Into Thursday’s Buffalo Road Trip
After a shaky start to the season, the Dallas Stars aim to maintain their scoring rhythm against the Sabres following a productive performance against San Jose.
The sound of boos raining down from the home crowd during a struggling power play might rattle some teams, but the Dallas Stars found a different kind of energy in the frustration of their fans.
Captain Jamie Benn didn’t shy away from the reaction during the season’s opening stretch. “I heard the boo birds on the power play. It was awesome,” Benn said. “Our fans are passionate, that’s why they’re the best. They’ve watched a lot of hockey over the last few years, so they can have their opinions.”.
The team’s frustration was palpable after a sluggish start where the squad managed only one goal and went 0-for-5 on the man advantage. sparking real concern in the locker room. The response came Monday against San Jose. as the team erupted for five goals from five different scorers—including Benn. Robertson. Joel Kiviranta. and Rantanen.
Coach Glen Gulutzan views the offensive breakout as a psychological turning point. “For all of our guys. Miro. Robo. Rants. Benny…it feels good to get a goal or a couple of assists. ” Gulutzan said. “It feels good, it helps. I think down the line, you can start feeling good about your game and that will help us.”.
The shift from concern to confidence is rooted in a specific set of adjustments: starting on time. maintaining consistency. increasing shots on goal. and getting more bodies in front of the net. For defenseman Miro Heiskanen, who currently has two goals, the offensive uptick is a catalyst for the team’s defensive identity. “It gives us confidence,” Heiskanen said. “You start to build on that and get better each game.”.
The sequence is clear: a wake-up call from the stands, individual and team-wide drilling, and a dominant five-goal performance have replaced early-season uncertainty. Now, the challenge shifts to sustaining that production on the road.
“We’ve been talking through it,” Robertson noted. “Everyone in the room knows what we need to do.”
As the team heads into Thursday’s matchup against the Sabres, Gulutzan is preaching refinement over radical change. “We want to clean up some things and keep pushing,” the coach said. “We don’t have to sacrifice any defense to get more offense. so we need to just clean up the things we can clean up.”.
