Seahawks steal RB off Commanders practice squad after Jadarian Price injury

The Seattle Seahawks have signed rookie running back Robert Henry Jr. to the active roster off the Washington Commanders practice squad, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Monday night.

Henry entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent from UTSA following the 2026 NFL Draft. Washington waived him during final roster cuts before placing him on its practice squad.

Seattle’s decision comes amid a shortage of healthy running backs. Rookie Jadarian Price was placed on injured reserve with a chest injury, meaning he will miss at least four games. Zach Charbonnet has returned to practice from the torn ACL he suffered last postseason, but head coach Mike Macdonald has ruled him out for Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Before Monday’s additions, the Seahawks’ had Emanuel Wilson, George Holani and Velus Jones Jr. available as running backs. Wilson had 21 rushing attempts for 81 yards and added three receptions for 39 yards in Seattle’s 30-23 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. He scored once on the ground and once as a receiver.

Henry gives the Seahawks another young option with plenty of college success. In his final season with the Roadrunners, he carried 151 times for 1,045 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 6.9 yards per attempt while earning first-team All-American Athletic Conference honors. Across three seasons at UTSA, he compiled 2,747 total yards and 30 touchdowns.

Before the Roadrunners, the 5-foot-9, 196-pound running back starred at Jones College, leading the nation with 1,302 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns in 2021 while earning NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Henry also flashed his potential during the Commanders preseason, rushing for 105 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries in three games.

Seattle’s acquisition also carries a roster commitment. Because Henry is being signed away from another team’s practice squad, the Seahawks must keep him on their 53-man roster for three games, while he receives three weeks of active-roster minimum salary.

The move came shortly after the Seahawks added veteran Joe Mixon to the practice squad. A two-time Pro Bowler, Mixon has five 1,000-yard rushing seasons and 7,428 career rushing yards but missed the entire 2025 season because of a foot injury.
