Scarborough Distraction Theft Suspect Wanted by Police

Authorities are searching for a 37-year-old Toronto woman accused of targeting victims in Scarborough through a calculated distraction theft scheme.
A 37-year-old Toronto woman is currently the subject of a police manhunt following a series of distraction thefts that have left residents on edge in the Scarborough area.
Authorities report that the suspect, identified as Victoria Miclescu, allegedly used deceptive tactics to target unsuspecting individuals in public spaces.. In one confirmed incident, the woman approached a victim under the guise of needing directions.. While the victim was preoccupied with assisting her, the suspect managed to snatch a real gold necklace from his neck, replacing it with a fake piece of jewelry before making a swift escape in a black SUV.
This incident highlights how quickly opportunistic thieves can capitalize on simple acts of kindness. By creating a temporary moment of confusion, suspects are able to compromise personal security before victims realize anything of value has been taken.
Following the first theft, Misryoum has learned that police received reports of a second, similar encounter on April 17 near the intersection of Ellesmere and Wye Valley Roads.. During this attempt, the suspect approached another person and initiated a conversation.. While she tried to forcibly remove the victim’s gold chain, the attempt was ultimately unsuccessful, and the suspect fled the scene in the same black vehicle.
Law enforcement officials are now seeking the public’s assistance in locating Miclescu, who faces formal charges of theft over $5,000 and attempted theft.. While one suspect has been identified, investigators have not yet provided a physical description for a potential second female accomplice seen with her.
The string of incidents has prompted local authorities to issue a reminder for residents to remain vigilant when approached by strangers in public. Maintaining awareness of one’s surroundings remains the most effective defense against these types of calculated street crimes.
As the search for the suspect continues, community members are encouraged to report any suspicious activity immediately to local authorities. Ensuring that law enforcement has as much information as possible is the primary step in preventing further occurrences of these distraction-based crimes.
