Representative Kiko Barzaga Surrenders Following Cyberlibel Warrant

There was a bit of a stir at the Dasmariñas Component City Police Station this past Monday, April 13, 2026. Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga Jr. walked in voluntarily to face the music after a Makati court issued an arrest warrant for eight counts of cyberlibel against him. You could smell the stale coffee and floor wax in the lobby—the usual precinct smell—when he showed up to process everything.
It’s interesting how fast these things move when they want to. The court had set bail at P48,000 per count, which is—well, let’s just say the young congressman managed to clear that hurdle pretty quickly. He was out and back on his feet before the afternoon really kicked into high gear.
Now, Barzaga isn’t staying quiet about any of this. He’s doubling down on his previous online statements, explicitly calling for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to step down. He claims this whole legal mess is basically retaliation for his vocal opposition to the administration.
“Pinakulong ako ni Marcos, pero lumalaban pa rin ako!” the congressman told Misryoum, sounding as defiant as his social media posts. He went on to blame the President for various issues, specifically pointing to alleged corruption in flood control projects and the constant, painful rise in fuel prices that everyone keeps talking about at the pumps. Or maybe he’s just looking for a way to rally his base. It’s hard to tell where the politics ends and the legal strategy begins sometimes, honestly.
He really seems convinced that the system is being weaponized against him—or at least that’s the narrative he’s pushing hard right now. He finished his statement by insisting that the country needs a change in leadership, though whether that actually leads anywhere is anyone’s guess at this point.
Anyway, the bail was paid, the paperwork was signed, and Barzaga is out. For now, the case is pending, and we’ll have to see if the court dates actually stick or if this drags on like everything else seems to these days.
