Presidency appoints Acting Inspector General of the Namibian Police

The Namibian Presidency announced Major General Anne-Marie Nainda as Acting Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force for one year, effective immediately.
A key leadership change is underway in Namibia’s police command as the Presidency moves to appoint an Acting Inspector General of the Namibian Police.
In an announcement shared through Misryoum, Her Excellency Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, appointed Major General Anne-Marie Nainda as Acting Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force, effective immediately. The acting appointment is set to run for one year.
Misryoum reports that the President’s press secretary, Jonas Mbambo, said the appointment is made under the authority provided by Article 32(4)(c)(bb). He added that Major General Nainda will take over in an acting capacity from Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo.
This kind of interim appointment matters because it helps keep operational continuity while leadership transitions are handled formally.
According to Misryoum, Mbambo described Major General Nainda as a law enforcement professional with experience spanning policing operations, administration, and strategic coordination. He said she has held several senior command roles within the Namibian Police Force.
Misryoum also notes that Mbambo emphasized that Nainda is widely regarded for professionalism, integrity, and commitment to public service, while the President expressed confidence in her ability to sustain law and order.
The Presidency announcement also indicates that the change has effectively ended Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo’s term.
Meanwhile, the focus now shifts to how the acting leadership period is managed across policing priorities, especially during a time when public confidence often depends on visible stability in command.
In this context, Misryoum said the decision reflects the President’s intention to ensure there is no gap in police leadership responsibilities as the country continues to navigate everyday security needs.
