Police Car Crashes En Route to Emergency Callout by Island Time
A police officer and a driver were taken to hospital after a crash involving a marked police vehicle responding to a 911 call.
(CNS): A police officer and a driver both ended up in hospital on Sunday night after a crash on Bodden Town Road.. They were both treated for non-life-threatening injuries and discharged.. According to an RCIPS release, around 9:30pm, the officer was driving a marked vehicle with its emergency siren and lights activated, responding to a 911 call, when a vehicle turned right onto the roadway instead of yielding to allow the police vehicle clear passage.. The police car crashed into the right side of that vehicle, and both sustained significant damage.. The collision is under investigation, and the Office of the Ombudsman has been notified of the incident.. The police said drivers must always give clear passage to all emergency service vehicles with lights and sirens activated and yield to the left of the roadside as far as possible to allow emergency vehicles to pass safely.
