Following a breakthrough victory against Buffalo, Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye reveals his skepticism regarding the Apollo moon landings.
The Sunday win in Buffalo marked a turning point for the Patriots, a moment defined by progress on the field. Yet, within 24 hours of that victory, New England quarterback Drake Maye steered the conversation away from the gridiron and toward the lunar surface.
During a radio appearance on WEEI, the rookie signal-caller expressed doubt regarding whether humans actually reached the moon. He admitted he wasn’t convinced by the historical record.
“I don’t know about the moon, you know,” Maye said. “I think I can see back in the day why we would put on the mask if we went there, but I’m not really sure 200 percent if we went there or not. I wouldn’t say I’m leaning one way or the other. I just know I’m a little bit skeptical.”
Maye attributed his perspective to an academic background in the subject. While attending the University of North Carolina, he enrolled in a course dedicated to studying various conspiracy theories. He recalled that the curriculum covered a range of topics. including questions over whether Adolf Hitler survived World War II and the satirical “birds aren’t real” movement.
The commentary drew an immediate, blunt rebuttal from NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman. Taking to social media, Isaacman offered a brief response to the quarterback’s doubts: “I quite literally have the receipts.”
It is a stark juxtaposition. One day, the focus was on the tangible mechanics of a professional football game. The next, the discussion shifted to the boundaries of objective reality and the persistence of doubt in a post-truth era. For Maye. the leap from a stadium in Buffalo to the craters of the moon was only a short. speculative flight.
