According to Misryoum, the blast occurred shortly before 3 a.m.. Thursday and collapsed the home in South Ozone Park.. The fire burned with such intensity that officials described it as a major multi-alarm incident. and the structure is expected to be fully demolished Friday.. A body believed to be the suspect was recovered from the rubble after the flames were brought under control.

Misryoum reports that police responded to a 911 call tied to a domestic dispute. with authorities saying the suspect was armed with a knife.. Officers said they smelled gas upon arrival and were met by a woman who provided keys to her basement apartment.. As they attempted to enter the unit to locate an estranged husband, the house exploded.
The injuries were significant but varied.. Misryoum says seven officers and a police sergeant were hurt in the blast. including minor burns for some and a more serious head laceration that required stitches for another.. Officials also said multiple civilian injuries were reported by responders during the incident.
