North Bay Teen Recovery After Crash: Family Update

North Bay – The family of a 17-year-old injured in a Novato crash says she remains in critical care while facing a long recovery.
A North Bay family is sharing an update on their 17-year-old daughter’s condition after a Novato crash that killed her friend, turning a night out into a fight for survival.
Misryoum reports that Angi Sharma. a passenger in the car. is receiving ongoing medical care following the crash on San Marin Drive earlier this month.. Her father. Saleen Sharma. described the days since the incident as filled with hardship and uncertainty. while emphasizing that his daughter is still battling through a serious injury.
For families, the aftermath of a crash is often measured in both medical time and emotional time, with recovery stretching far beyond the initial hospital stay.
According to Misryoum, Sharma said his daughter sustained multiple injuries, including a punctured lung, fractured ribs, and a severely broken leg. He noted she does not remember the moments leading up to the crash, underscoring how rapidly lives can change with little warning.
Misryoum also reports that the crash involved five teens, and that one of them, Nico Vargas Ortiz, died at the scene. The driver has been charged with DUI, a detail that the family says has only added to their grief and frustration.
This is the kind of case that tends to resonate beyond one community, because it raises urgent questions about safety, judgment, and the risks young drivers face.
In the days following the crash, Misryoum reports that most of the teens involved were students at Rancho Cotate High School in Rohnert Park, and that the group was reportedly coming from a party. Sharma said he had expected to pick his daughter up, but plans shifted before the accident.
With the road to recovery expected to take time, Misryoum reports the family has also turned to community support for medical expenses. A GoFundMe was started to help cover costs connected to Angi’s treatment.
At a time like this, outside help can make a measurable difference, but it also highlights how quickly families can be pushed into financial and logistical stress when tragedy strikes.
