New Hampshire Couple’s Double Suicide Ruled Hypothermia

double suicide – A married couple in their 70s was found dead near a summer home in Tuftonboro; authorities ruled the deaths suicides due to hypothermia.
A married couple in their 70s was found dead outside their New Hampshire property in what authorities say was a double suicide that ultimately resulted in freezing to death.
Misryoum reports that David Warren, 79, and Rae Lynn Warren, 78, were discovered near their summer home in Tuftonboro after a neighbor found them outdoors behind a camp on the property. Police responded shortly before 9:30 a.m. Saturday following the report.
The state attorney general’s office said both deaths were initially approached as a possible murder-suicide scenario, before autopsies were completed. After that process, Misryoum reports the deaths were classified as suicides, with the cause of death determined to be environmental hypothermia.
This matters because hypothermia can turn exposure to cold into a lethal risk quickly, especially when individuals are outdoors without adequate protection.
Authorities said the couple owned the property where they were found. The attorney general’s office indicated it does not plan to release additional information about the case.
While the final ruling offers a clearer explanation of what happened medically, the lack of further details can leave unanswered questions for neighbors and family members trying to understand how events unfolded.
For now, Misryoum notes that investigators have closed the case on the official determination, even as the circumstances continue to underscore the dangers of New England winters and the thin line between exposure and catastrophe.
