Collin Morikawa Withdraws From Truist Championship

Collin Morikawa has withdrawn from the Truist Championship, with Andrew Putnam set to replace him.

A late change has rocked this week’s PGA Tour schedule, with Collin Morikawa withdrawing from the Truist Championship.

PGA Tour officials said Monday that World No. 6 Morikawa will not play at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. The focus of the update is straightforward: Morikawa is out, and Andrew Putnam is in.

The PGA Tour did not provide a specific reason for the withdrawal. However, Morikawa has been managing a back issue that has affected his start choices since March 12, when he withdrew from the first round of The Players.

In this context, the reshuffle matters because the Signature Event field is built on momentum as much as it is on ranking points. A withdrawal changes who gets a shot at key course dynamics and pairing setups.

Since that back-related setback, Morikawa has still turned in some notable performances, including a tie for seventh at The Masters and a fourth-place finish at the RBC Heritage. Most recently, he finished tied for 62nd at last week’s Cadillac Championship, finishing 20 strokes behind Cameron Young.

Morikawa’s competitive résumé remains substantial, including seven PGA Tour wins and major titles at the PGA Championship in 2020 and The Open Championship in 2021. He also captured the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February.

With Morikawa stepping aside, Putnam will take his place in the field at Quail Hollow. Putnam, 37, recorded a tie for 18th last week at Trump National Doral, marking his third top-20 finish of the season.

For players and fans alike, replacement spots can quickly become opportunities, especially in events where course familiarity and form trends carry extra weight. Misryoum will be watching how Putnam handles the adjustment.

Meanwhile, Morikawa’s next steps will likely be closely monitored, since the withdrawal follows an extended run of managing his back issue rather than a single-day decision. The bigger story now is whether he can return to full rhythm soon.
