Minnesota edges ahead in race to host 2028 NFL Draft

With the league vote approaching, Minnesota is emerging as the clear favorite to host the 2028 NFL Draft after next year’s event in D.C.
Minnesota is increasingly looking like the front-runner to land the 2028 NFL Draft, with the league’s timeline and decision-making process now coming into focus.
Next year’s draft is set for Washington, D.C., but the host for the following edition remains undecided.. Misryoum reports that Minnesota has emerged as the “clear favorite” after putting in a bid in March.. The proposal centers on U.S.. Bank Stadium for the three-day event, with additional activities planned across the Twin Cities area.
The draft bid also includes plans to stage non-draft events in St.. Paul, at the Mall of America, and around the Viking Lakes development near the team’s headquarters in Eagan.. In this context. it is the scale and scheduling that stand out. aiming to turn a league event into a broader regional showcase.
This matters because the NFL Draft has evolved into a destination-style spectacle. As it continues to draw large crowds and media attention beyond the main stage, host cities see value that extends well past draft day itself.
Meanwhile, the league’s events committee is expected to meet next week to review the 2028 options. A final ownership vote is then anticipated at the next ownership meeting in Orlando on May 19 and 20, a key step that will determine the destination for the next draft after 2027.
The NFL Draft has already become a true road show over the past decade.. Since leaving New York City. it has been held in places such as Chicago (twice). Philadelphia. Dallas. Nashville. Cleveland. Las Vegas. Kansas City. Detroit. Green Bay. and Pittsburgh. underscoring how much momentum host bids can gain with the right presentation.
At the end of the day, the 2028 decision is about more than geography. It reflects which city can deliver the kind of weekend-wide experience the NFL is increasingly building around the draft, and that is why Minnesota’s pitch is resonating.
Misryoum will be watching the committee discussion and the ownership vote closely as the league moves toward a final call for 2028.
