Kristin Robbins exits MN governor race, reshaping GOP bid

Minnesota Republican Kristin Robbins ends her campaign to replace Gov. Tim Walz, citing election math after Sen. Amy Klobuchar entered the race.

A major shakeup in Minnesota’s Republican race to replace Gov. Tim Walz is underway after GOP lawmaker Kristin Robbins ended her campaign, arguing she “doesn’t see a path” to win.

Robbins. a state representative and chair of a House committee focused on fraud prevention and state agency oversight. said her decision followed months of political shifts after Walz dropped out of the gubernatorial race.. She pointed to the emergence of Sen.. Amy Klobuchar as the Democrats’ presumptive contender and said the political environment became harder to break through as party support consolidated behind Klobuchar.

In this context. Robbins framed her withdrawal as a realism-based choice rather than a loss of commitment to her core political message.. Her campaign—begun roughly a year before the race’s current phase—was closely tied to her committee work and her criticism of the administration’s handling of fraud allegations.

Robbins said she believes the race’s dynamics changed substantially after Klobuchar entered. describing it as an “establishment” consolidation that made the math unfavorable.. She also suggested that the earlier timing of Walz’s departure from the re-election bid gave her campaign momentum. but that advantages were later absorbed by the broader party apparatus.

She said she would not endorse any remaining Republican candidates, leaving the field’s direction to voters. The GOP contenders now include Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth, healthcare executive Kendall Qualls, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, and other candidates seeking their party’s nomination.

That decision matters beyond Minnesota’s primary calendar: when a known figure steps aside, it can quickly change fundraising, debate expectations, and voter perceptions of who can credibly compete for the nomination.

Looking ahead. Robbins indicated her immediate focus is on the ongoing legislative session and what she called “big things” planned for committees.. She also signaled that she intends to keep pressing for answers related to the fraud concerns that have dominated the political debate around Walz’s time in office.

At the end of her remarks. Robbins emphasized gratitude for traveling across Minnesota and meeting voters. while also saying she believes the search for answers should not be confined to the statehouse.. In her view, continued pressure and accountability will come from communities, not from political venues alone.

The takeaway for Minnesota voters is straightforward: the GOP field’s center of gravity has shifted, and the remaining candidates will now have to compete for attention in a race that is already defined by the political fallout from Walz’s departure.
