The NHL and Fanatics have revealed the 2026 Heritage Classic uniforms, featuring a nostalgic look for the Winnipeg Jets and vintage styling for the Montreal Canadiens.
The tension of the open field awaits as the NHL and Fanatics officially pulled back the curtain on the uniforms for the 2026 Heritage Classic. Set for October 25, the game will take place at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ home stadium, bringing professional hockey back to the outdoor elements.
For the Jets, the aesthetic choice is a direct connection to their roots. The club is reviving its classic look from the 1980s and 90s. reintroducing the sweater and logo worn during the franchise’s original tenure in the league. It is a sharp pivot toward history, leaning into the nostalgia of the team’s first era.
The Canadiens are approaching the event with a different lens. While the red and blue palette remains, the team has shifted its base white to a vintage-style off-white. The details are granular: “Les Habitants” is stitched into the back collar, and a Fleur-de-lis appears on the loop label. Even the iconic logo has been redrawn to mirror past versions. with added felt stitching designed to evoke a more tactile. historic feel.
This marks the eighth edition of an event that began back in the 2003 season. when the Canadiens faced the Edmonton Oilers at Commonwealth Stadium in Alberta. The venue choice follows a recent precedent; that same Commonwealth Stadium—home to the Edmonton Elks—hosted the 2023 Heritage Classic between the Oilers and the Flames.
Between the Jets’ reliance on 1980s iconography and Montreal’s focus on subtle. period-specific fabric details. the design strategies highlight a league increasingly eager to commodify its own timeline. The decision to return to the Blue Bombers’ turf signals a continued commitment to the stadium-sized atmosphere that has defined the series since its inception over two decades ago.
