Misryoum reports that Apple is considering an option across iOS 27. iPadOS 27. and macOS 27 to route certain system AI features through third-party models.. The idea is simple on paper. but it could change daily workflows by giving users a choice over which model handles prompts. writing tasks. and other on-device experiences.
The most notable part is that this would not just be a single app-level integration. Misryoum says the selection would be tied to iOS system “Extensions,” potentially allowing installed apps to plug into generative AI features used by tools like Siri, Writing Tools, and Image Playground.
That setup would also appear to bring a clearer signal when external AI is in control.. For example.
