iOS 27 may let users choose Apple Intelligence AI models

Misryoum reports Apple is exploring user selection of AI models in iOS 27, with third-party chatbots powering more Apple Intelligence features.
Apple’s next iOS release could turn “Apple Intelligence” from a single, fixed experience into something you can tailor.
In iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, Misryoum notes Apple may let users pick which AI model powers the system’s intelligence features, including core functions tied to Siri. The idea is that third-party chatbots could plug in across the platform, not just sit beside it.
This also suggests a shift in how Apple structures AI access: instead of one model running the show, the operating system would act more like a marketplace for compatible AI “extensions.”
In this context. Apple Intelligence features such as Writing Tools and Image Playground could be powered by supported third-party models. as long as the developer opts in through the App Store.. Once a compatible AI app is installed. users would be able to select it as their preferred AI from the Settings app.
Misryoum reports that Apple is also planning to give users more control over voice behavior.. The same system prompt could route responses through different AI models. and each model could use a different Siri voice. so you might hear distinct narration depending on which model is driving the interaction.
While the tech is still emerging, the real implication is straightforward: model choice would become part of the user experience, not a developer-only setting. That matters for people who care about writing style, response tone, or how an assistant sounds during different tasks.
Apple’s internal testing. per Misryoum. includes integrations with major AI providers. and Apple’s Siri revamp is described as already relying on Google’s models.. Meanwhile. ChatGPT has been the main third-party model integrated into Apple Intelligence so far. but that could expand once the new selection approach rolls out.
At the end of the day, this is less about replacing Siri and more about expanding what “default AI” means on Apple devices. If Misryoum’s reporting holds, iOS 27 could make it normal to choose the brain behind the assistant, with Apple acting as the connector across apps and system features.
