Apple’s next iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 release is moving into the final stretch, with Misryoum noting a fresh round of release candidate builds designed to iron out the last rough edges.
The updated RC 2 builds land about a week after prior beta cycles, following a familiar rhythm for Apple: release candidates are generally the closest version to what users will eventually see publicly, unless major issues force additional revisions.
Misryoum reports that both iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 list the same build number on the developer side. replacing the earlier RC build.. In this phase. the emphasis typically shifts away from large changes and toward smaller fixes. compatibility work. and incremental enhancements that help the release feel stable across devices.
One notable addition being discussed during the beta cycle is support for encrypted RCS messaging. This depends on carriers adopting updated GSMA Universal Profile specifications, and it broadens encrypted messaging options beyond Apple’s own iMessage ecosystem.
Beyond messaging, Misryoum says iOS 26.5 includes Pride-themed wallpapers and additional adjustments tied to the European Union’s Digital Markets Act..
