Hervey Bay crash: unlicensed 14-year-old driver faces charges

A car allegedly driven by an unlicensed 14-year-old near Hervey Bay sparked a multi-car crash, leaving eight people seriously hurt.
A horror crash near Hervey Bay has left eight people seriously injured, after police allege an unlicensed 14-year-old driver caused a multi-car pileup.
Misryoum reports the incident happened on Maryborough Hervey Bay Rd in Susan River around 6.10pm on Thursday, where emergency crews were called after reports of multiple people critically injured, including some who required help being freed from wreckage.
Police allege a white Mitsubishi Lancer was travelling north when it lost control and crossed onto the wrong side of the road, hitting other vehicles along the way.
One insight: crashes like this can quickly overwhelm local response services, especially when several vehicles become involved in a single incident.
According to Misryoum, the Mitsubishi was reported to have collided with a white Suzuki Swift before striking an orange Kona. A red Volkswagen Polo travelling behind the Kona was also pulled into the crash.
The Mitsubishi’s 16-year-old passenger was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital before being airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a life-threatening condition.. Two other Mitsubishi passengers, aged 14 and 16, along with the teenage driver, were transported to Hervey Bay Hospital in stable condition with injuries described as varying in severity.
One insight: when children and teenagers are involved on multiple vehicles, even “stable” reports can still mask serious trauma and lengthy recovery.
The driver of the Suzuki, an 18-year-old woman, was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition. A 58-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Suzuki was also transported, with injuries described as stable.
The driver and passengers of the Kona were trapped and required the assistance of the Queensland Fire Department to be released.. The 40-year-old man driving the Kona was treated for pelvic and limb injuries described as potentially life-threatening, while the 40-year-old woman passenger and a two-year-old girl were taken to Hervey Bay Hospital in potentially life-threatening conditions with multiple injuries.
One insight: Misryoum notes that investigations often look beyond the immediate collision, including road conditions, vehicle control, and how quickly the chain of impacts unfolded.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 19-year-old man, was taken to Maryborough Hospital with minor injuries as a precaution.
Investigations into the cause of the crash remain ongoing, and Misryoum reports police are asking anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to come forward.
