Federal prosecutors support a bid to unseal a purported Jeffrey Epstein suicide note tied to the case of his former cellmate.
Jeffrey Epstein’s death has already generated years of legal fights and public scrutiny, but now a new document could be headed into view: a purported suicide note.
Federal prosecutors in New York have sided with a request from The New York Times to unseal the note. which has been kept sealed in criminal proceedings involving Nicholas Tartaglione. Epstein’s one-time cellmate.. The newspaper said Tartaglione publicly discussed the existence and contents of the note. arguing that continued secrecy no longer served a purpose.
In a letter submitted to a judge in White Plains, prosecutors said they no longer saw a compelling reason to keep the item sealed, pointing to the argument that Tartaglione’s public statements effectively undercut the need for confidentiality.
The decision matters because sealed records can shape how courts, journalists, and the public understand major events. When a document is unsealed, it can also change how future litigation is framed and how claims are evaluated.
Now the issue is in the hands of Judge Kenneth Karas, who will decide whether the note will be released.. If the judge agrees. it would provide another piece of evidence connected to Epstein’s death and the subsequent criminal proceedings that followed. including matters tied to a trial related to sex-trafficking allegations.

Tartaglione first referenced the note publicly through a podcast appearance. according to court-related reporting. and a separate sealed record described a “chart” that referenced the note during the period when it was being handled.
