Envision Green Ammonia Fuels World’s First Dual-Fuel VLAC

Envision has successfully supplied certified green ammonia for the bunkering of the Terra Clove, recognized as the world’s first Very Large Ammonia Carrier equipped with dual-fuel ammonia propulsion. The milestone was announced from Shanghai, following a recent naming ceremony for the vessel in South Korea.

The vessel is owned by Eastern Pacific Shipping and was constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The deployment highlights the practical viability of green ammonia as a scalable marine fuel, as the shipping industry pursues lifecycle greenhouse gas emission reductions.

The newly bunkered fuel originates from Envision’s Chifeng Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Industrial Park located in Inner Mongolia. The Chifeng production base currently yields 320,000 tons of green ammonia annually, with an ultimate planned capacity scaling up to 1.52 million tons. Furthermore, the facility holds certification from Bureau Veritas to international ISO standards, and its green ammonia output satisfies both RFNBO and ISCC requirements.

This latest maritime application follows an earlier milestone in February 2026, when Envision completed its inaugural commercial green ammonia shipment. That delivery originated from Chifeng and traveled to LOTTE Fine Chemical at the Port of Ulsan in South Korea, establishing the world’s first end-to-end commercial supply chain from renewable hydrogen synthesis through to international marine logistics. With the successful fuel supply to the Terra Clove, the company has closed the loop from large-scale production and transportation to downstream marine propulsion.

“Building on our first shipment to LOTTE Fine Chemical in February, this bunkering marks a historic milestone: we have officially connected the entire green ammonia value chain—from production to marine application to a larger scale,” said Frank Yu, Senior Vice President of Envision Energy. “The deployment to this first-in-kind VLAC powered by the ammonia dual-fuel Everllence engine is a breakthrough, confirming that green ammonia is a viable, scalable marine fuel today. We are incredibly proud to partner with forward-thinking leaders like EPS and LOTTE Fine Chemical to make this a reality and look forward to driving the global maritime industry toward net-zero.”

Designed with dual-fuel propulsion, the Terra Clove maintains the operational flexibility to use conventional marine fuel while leveraging green ammonia to cut emissions. Industry observers note that successfully integrating zero-carbon fuels into large-scale vessels like Very Large Ammonia Carriers represents a critical step for international shipping regulations and environmental targets.
