Diputación de León Allocates Over 680,000 Euros for Provincial Snow Campaign

Educational centers throughout the León province have officially begun submitting applications to participate in the upcoming provincial snow campaign, organized by the Provincial Council of León. The initiative offers students the opportunity to practice skiing and winter sports at the San Isidro and Valle Laciana-Leitariegos ski resorts.

For the upcoming initiative, the institution has allocated a total budget of 682,891 euros, marking a notable increase compared to the 534,323.56 euros dedicated to the previous edition. The campaign is structured around three distinct subprograms tailored for educational institutions and municipalities situated near the resort areas.

The deadline for schools to register for the “Winter Schools” program closes on November 4, while applications for the “A Day in the Snow” initiative will remain open until February 26, 2027.

The “Winter Schools” program is primarily designed for educational centers located in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 residents, though other institutions may be permitted to join if remaining vacancies are available. Student eligibility spans from third year of Primary education through the fourth year of Compulsory Secondary Education for weekly participation, while Baccalaureate students are eligible for daily sessions. At the Leitariegos resort, institutions situated within the immediate zone of influence are granted priority.

The program’s schedule provides a weekly modality lasting six weeks and a daily modality running for eight weeks. Capacity limits are set at 1,660 participants for San Isidro and 832 participants for Valle Laciana-Leitariegos, totals that include accompanying adults.

Participation fees are set at 200 euros per person for the weekly option and 80 euros for the daily option. Both packages encompass transportation, instruction with certified monitors, equipment use, and ski passes. The weekly program additionally covers lodging and board, whereas midday meals for the daily program must be arranged independently by the participants or their respective schools.

A second subprogram, designated as “A Day in the Snow,” enables schools, high schools, university faculties, and vocational training centers to organize single-day introductory ski excursions. Participating institutions are required to select an available date, contract three hours of lessons through an authorized ski school, and coordinate their own transportation and equipment rentals if necessary. This specific activity takes place during the off-peak season.

A third subprogram is dedicated to local residents registered in the municipalities surrounding the facilities. These courses are offered to residents of Puebla de Lillo and Valdelugueros for activities at San Isidro, and to residents of Villablino for activities at Leitariegos, with all sessions scheduled during the off-peak season.
