DeSantis Reappoints Zachariah, Zanotti-Cavazzoni to Broward College Board

Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office announced the reappointment of two trustees to the Broward College Board, pending Senate confirmation.
A pair of Broward College trustees will remain on the board after Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office announced the reappointments of Reggie Zachariah Jr. and Mario Zanotti-Cavazzoni, with both moves subject to Senate approval.
The Broward College Board of Trustees is a five-member panel. and Zachariah. the current vice chair. is set to continue his role following his initial appointment by DeSantis’ office in early 2020.. The governor’s office also named Zanotti-Cavazzoni for reappointment. returning the adviser and executive to a seat first filled under DeSantis in 2023.
In Zachariah’s case. the reappointment places a longtime legal professional and civic participant back in a key governance position for the community college.. His academic background includes a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida and an economics bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
A key detail in this appointment story is how board leadership connects to broader Florida politics and institutions. When state leaders keep familiar faces in place across public education and local governance, it can shape how priorities are set long after the initial appointment.
Zanotti-Cavazzoni brings a different profile to the board.. He currently serves as Senior Adviser of Organizational Transformation for CONMEBOL. and previously held senior leadership in Latin America for the telecommunications provider Millicom International.. His education includes a master’s degree in business administration from Universidad Católica de Asunción in Paraguay and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul.
The college board also includes Chair Alexis Yarborough. Michael Caschette and Eileen LaMarca. rounding out the panel that guides Broward College’s direction.. Yarborough is married to Shane Strum. who previously served as chief of staff to DeSantis and now leads Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System.. State GOP lawmakers have pushed in recent legislative sessions to merge the two hospital systems. a debate that underscores how state and local influence can overlap across public institutions.. LaMarca, meanwhile, is married to Republican Rep.. Chip LaMarca. while Caschette previously founded a pediatric urgent care business and has served in emergency services leadership at a children’s hospital.
For residents who watch how Florida’s higher education institutions are governed. these reappointments matter because trustee decisions can affect oversight priorities. institutional partnerships and how colleges respond to community needs.. The confirmation step in the state Senate will determine whether the board’s current configuration—and its mix of professional backgrounds—holds steady.
At this stage, Misryoum reports that Zachariah and Zanotti-Cavazzoni will keep their posts only if the Florida Senate approves the reappointments.
