PHILADELPHIA — A man drove an SUV into the Philadelphia Police Department’s 2nd District headquarters on Tuesday afternoon, injuring five people who were inside the lobby waiting for police assistance.
Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel told reporters the incident was a deliberate act, describing it as “clearly an absolute deliberate act.” The crash happened around 1:40 p.m., shortly after officers had responded earlier that day to a disturbance involving the suspect and his father.
According to Bethel, officers saw the suspect later driving south before he made a sharp turn and crashed into the district headquarters. The five people hurt were inside the building when the vehicle struck it. Police said none of the injured had serious injuries.
