U.S. Senator Cory Booker, D-New Jersey, is scheduled to attend an upcoming town hall in Birmingham on Monday, May 4, according to an announcement from Blueprint Alabama.
Organizers said Booker will join Alabama voters for what they described as “an important conversation at a critical moment for our country.” The senator was previously scheduled to visit Birmingham last November for a town hall that included U.S.. Representative Terri Sewell, D-Alabama, and former U.S.. Senator Doug Jones, but he was unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict.
Ahead of the May event, Booker said he is excited to return to Alabama.. In his statement. he referenced the challenges Americans are facing nationwide and described the moment as one that calls for “moral” urgency.. He also said Alabama residents are not unfamiliar with confronting the kinds of hardships. frustration with political corruption. and desire for “bold change” that he said many Americans share.
Booker said he is looking forward to joining Alabamians for discussions about the challenges they are dealing with, the importance of organizing in communities to create change, and ways people can “stand up together” to shape a better path forward.
Blueprint Alabama co-founder Josh Coleman said the town hall is intended to be about more than politics. framing it as a conversation about what is at stake and how people move forward together.. He added that the moment calls for leadership and real connection with people on the ground. and he described Booker’s decision to come to Birmingham as underscoring the event’s significance.
Coleman also characterized the gathering as a response to many people who feel unheard or overlooked, saying the town hall is meant to help reignite hope, build power, and reinforce that public voices can still influence the future. He said Birmingham is ready for that conversation.
The event will be free and open to the public, but organizers noted that space will be limited. The event location will be shared 48 hours prior to the program with attendees who have registered in advance. Doors are set to open at 5:30 p.m., and the program is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
