Coca-Cola Games 2026: 400m Heats Set Up Finals

From Suva to Lau, athletes delivered standout performances at the Coca-Cola Games, with 400m finals scheduled for 3pm.

A packed day at the HFC Bank Stadium is doing more than settling heats at the Coca-Cola Games 2026, it is shaping the storylines for tomorrow’s finals.

One of the most talked-about moments came in the Sub-Junior Boys’ 400 metres, where Sila Central College runner Caucauniwasa Latolatomaivei won his heat while being watched by parents who travelled from Lau.. Competing at HFC Bank Stadium, Latolatomaivei finished ahead of the other runners to book his place in the next stage.

For Latolatomaivei, the presence of family made the win feel bigger than the race itself. He later said he was grateful for the support and guidance from his school and teachers, and added that seeing his parents at the Games gave him extra motivation for what comes next.

With the 400 metres finals due to be held at 3pm tomorrow, the focus now shifts from qualifying to who can handle the pressure when it matters most.

Meanwhile, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School made an early statement in the field, picking up three gold medals in the Senior and Intermediate girls’ events and the Junior competitions.. Keleni Lutu took gold in the Senior Girls’ Triple Jump, Savaira Kulavia won the Junior Girls’ Javelin, and Tanesa Areki claimed the Intermediate Girls’ Shot Put.

In this context, it’s not just about medals, it’s about momentum. When schools stack wins across different disciplines, it often signals depth in training, coaching, and athlete preparation.

Natabua High School also delivered a headline moment with Setareki Dawai, who set a new record to win gold in the Intermediate Boys’ Discus. The result ended an 11-year benchmark dating back to 2015, while Asitamani Fuka collected silver and Vamarasi Kafoa won bronze.

Beyond the 400 metres scene, the Games kept rolling across track and field with several notable results including gold for Marist Brothers in the Sub-Junior Boys’ Shot Put, and a record-setting win in the Intermediate Girls’ High Jump for Adi Ulamila of Xavier College.. There were also victories despite challenges, including a Senior Girls’ Javelin gold for Lewageena, who said health issues affected her lead-up to the competition.

While heats are already completed in parts of the programme, coaches and athletes will now be sharpening the final details for the next round. For many competitors, tomorrow’s races and finals are where early promise is turned into lasting results.

Towards the end of the day, attention was also building around the Senior and Intermediate 400 metres matchups, with multiple schools positioned as strong contenders.. With a full slate continuing at HFC Bank Stadium, the Coca-Cola Games 2026 is clearly heading into a weekend where performance and nerve will both be tested.
