Carabanchel Neighborhood Coordinator Joins Upcoming General Strike for Housing

The Coordinator of Neighborhood Associations of Carabanchel has officially announced its participation in the upcoming General Housing Strike scheduled for November 11, aligning with labor unions, organizing groups, and community entities to demand affordable housing and structural reforms.
In a formal statement addressing the growing affordability crisis, the coordinator emphasized that surging housing costs continue to outpace wage growth, creating severe financial strain for working households. The organization asserted that housing functions as a fundamental right that must be decoupled from speculative market interests, necessitating coordinated social mobilization to compel policy changes.
Neighborhood collectives within Carabanchel highlighted that local communities have endured years of displacement pressures driven by prevailing real estate models, which systematically push long-term residents out of their homes and obstruct access to adequate shelter. To bolster participation across the district, the neighborhood groups announced that local association headquarters will remain fully open throughout the strike day, functioning as welcoming spaces for residents seeking rest, meetings, mutual aid, and community solidarity.
Several specific local venues have been designated to stay open during the mobilization, including the Asociación Vecinal Comillas located at 41 Inmaculada Concepción Street, the Asociación Vecinal General Ricardos at 52 Toboso Street, and the Asociación Vecinal Pradera Tercio Terol situated at 7 Tercio Street. Additionally, Carabanchel Distrito Cultural, located on Avenida Pedro Diez, will participate by keeping its doors open to the public.
Organizers stressed that defending housing access is inherently tied to preserving the social fabric and stability of local neighborhoods and the people who inhabit them, calling on all district residents to actively second the November 11 mobilization.
