The Barbican Cinema hosts a free screening of Cane River, introduced by curator Matthew Barrington, with comprehensive accessibility features for all attendees.
The lights will dim at the Barbican Cinema for a special free screening of *Cane River*. an event anchored by an introduction from cinema curator Matthew Barrington. For those planning to attend. the experience begins at the Beech Street location of AccessCinemas 2 and 3. situated just a short walk from the Barbican Centre’s main Silk Street entrance.
Navigating the path between the two sites requires attention, as attendees will encounter a couple of steep, dropped kerbs and an incline. However, the venue provides level access directly from Beech Street to ensure guests can reach the auditoriums.
Inside, the seating configuration is designed to balance capacity with inclusivity. Each auditorium contains 153 fixed seats. supplemented by three permanent wheelchair spaces—two located in the third row and one in the front row. Staff can also accommodate three additional spaces in the front row if needed. Access to each auditorium is facilitated by a ramp. and the venue offers a selection of seats with step-free access for those who require them.
Supporting a range of needs, the cinema is equipped with an infrared system for hard-of-hearing customers. Headsets and neck loops for this system are available upon request from the foyer staff, and the ticket desk counter is fitted with an induction loop.
Assistance dogs are welcome inside the cinema. Guests are encouraged to notify the staff at the time of booking to ensure the assigned seat provides adequate space. Alternatively. those who prefer may leave their dog with a member of the foyer staff for the duration of the performance. For any specific concerns or further details, the venue directs visitors to their dedicated accessibility section online.
