Apple Reveals 4,883mAh Battery Capacity for Upcoming iPhone Duo Foldable
Apple has officially disclosed the battery specifications for its upcoming foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, through European regulatory filings and energy labels released on October 16. The documentation reveals that the device carries a rated battery capacity of 4,883mAh, providing a concrete figure for a specification that Apple typically omits from standard promotional product sheets.
Prior leaks regarding the iPhone Duo had pointed to a dual-cell configuration split into independent 2,962mAh and 1,921mAh units, totaling 4,883mAh. The newly available regulatory data aligns directly with those earlier reports. Because the iPhone Duo utilizes a purely eSIM-based design without a physical SIM card tray, regional housing variations are eliminated. Consequently, this 4,883mAh capacity is expected to apply to global models uniformly, avoiding the internal layout discrepancies seen in traditional iPhones that accommodate physical SIM hardware.
Positioned within Apple’s mobile lineup, the iPhone Duo’s energy storage sits between the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Teardown data for the eSIM variant of the iPhone 18 Pro lists a 4,288mAh battery, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max reaches 5,567mAh. This places the foldable device 595mAh above the iPhone 18 Pro, yet 684mAh below the Pro Max. For a book-style folding device, balancing this capacity requires careful allocation of interior space among dual displays, mechanical hinges, logic boards, camera arrays, and structural framing while maintaining a manageable chassis profile.

The dual-cell architecture positions individual cells within opposite halves of the folding chassis. Apple’s operating system manages these two power units as a single integrated system rather than requiring separate user input. The split-cell design accommodates the physical constraints of a folding device, though it does not imply equal cell capacities, nor does it serve as the sole metric for determining endurance.
Official specifications released by Apple indicate that screen selection significantly alters power consumption. When operating in an unfolded state using the 7.6-inch internal display for video playback, the device delivers up to 31 hours of battery life. Relying exclusively on the 5.4-inch external cover screen extends video playback endurance to a maximum of 44 hours. Under Apple’s defined typical daily use profile—which balances internal and external screen time across messaging, photography, music streaming, social applications, gaming, web browsing, and navigation—the device is rated for up to 24 hours of operation.
Hardware efficiency is driven by the integration of the next-generation A20 Pro chip alongside a C2 modem, complemented by the spatial and power optimizations afforded by the dual-cell layout and pure eSIM configuration. For replenishment, the device supports wired fast charging, reaching a 50 percent charge in approximately 20 minutes when paired with a USB-C power adapter rated at 60W or higher. Wireless capabilities include support for both MagSafe and Qi2 standards, enabling wireless charging speeds up to 25W.
Beyond basic capacity figures, the European documentation also touches upon metrics such as battery cycle durability. For foldable devices relying on partitioned power units, long-term cell degradation, system health management, and physical replacement procedures remain key technical considerations as units reach consumers. The iPhone Duo is scheduled to officially launch on October 23, with subsequent teardowns and real-world testing expected to provide further clarity on the internal mechanics and charging protocols of Apple’s inaugural foldable hardware.
