Representative Adam Smith Labels Donald Trump and Elon Musk Fascists Following Starlink Report

Representative Adam Smith leveled a sharp critique against President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, labeling both figures “fascists” during a television broadcast on Tuesday. The remarks from the Washington Democrat came in response to breaking reporting regarding alleged actions involving satellite internet infrastructure utilized by the Ukrainian military.

Appearing on a network program, the discussion centered on a published report indicating that Elon Musk had ordered the slowdown of a military-grade version of Starlink, a satellite internet service heavily relied upon by Ukrainian forces. The reported decision allegedly sparked immediate panic in Kyiv and generated confusion among officials within the Trump administration, according to U.S. officials and individuals familiar with the matter.

When asked about the situation, host Kasie Hunt noted that one source claimed Musk and Trump had discussed the matter prior to the decision to throttle the satellite service, though that account originated from a single source. Other U.S. officials maintained that Musk acted unilaterally and that the president did not specifically order any retribution against Ukraine.

Asked for his reaction, Smith argued that the actions appeared designed to weaken Ukraine and place the nation in a disadvantaged position. While acknowledging potential arguments about forcing parties to the bargaining table, the congressman framed the situation differently.

“Look, do I want to use the F word here? I don’t know. Autocrat certainly. Probably fascist, okay? Trump and Musk are fascists, okay?” Smith said during the broadcast. He further asserted that both men favor governance by strongmen, specifically adding that Musk prefers rule by strong white men.

The exchange underscores ongoing political tensions in Washington regarding foreign policy decisions, private technology infrastructure, and the shifting dynamics surrounding international conflicts and communications networks.
