One Dead and Another Wounded in Columbus Shooting Stemming From Apartment Dispute

The incident unfolded at approximately 2:10 p.m. near the religious center. While initial concerns arose given the proximity to the mosque, law enforcement officials moved quickly to quell fears of a targeted hate crime or directed assault.

Columbus Police Sgt. James Fuqua addressed the public following the incident, stating plainly that investigators want to make it clear the shooting was not an attack on the mosque. Local reporting from news station 10 WBNS further reinforced that police established the gunfire was not an attempt to target the religious facility, but rather the tragic escalation of an ongoing altercation.

In response to the emergency, federal personnel from the Columbus office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to the scene to assist local authorities with the ongoing investigation.
