Elon Musk Says SpaceX and Tesla Form Committees to Explore Potential Merger

Elon Musk announced that SpaceX and Tesla Inc. have established special committees to explore a potential merger between the two corporate giants, marking a preliminary step toward what would represent the largest corporate tie-up in history.
Musk, who serves as the chief executive officer for both companies, disclosed the development during an earnings call for the rocket manufacturer. Explaining the rationale behind the initiative, he pointed to overlapping technological ambitions and the rapid advancement of advanced computing.
“I do think there’s a lot of merit to combining the companies,” Musk said during the earnings call. “We are pretty much in the superintelligence singularity, and there’s a lot to be gained from cooperating on developing superintelligence software.”
The creation of the exploratory committees is currently in its early stages, and any formal combination would face significant regulatory, structural, and shareholder hurdles given the immense scale of both enterprises. SpaceX, a privately held aerospace manufacturer and launch service provider, and Tesla, a publicly traded electric vehicle and clean energy company, have occasionally collaborated on engineering insights and materials science, but a formal merger would unite two of the world’s most high-profile technology firms under a single corporate umbrella.
Further details regarding the composition of the special committees or a timeline for their evaluations were not immediately disclosed.
